WIC provides supplemental nutritious foods and individual nutrition assessment and counseling as an adjunct to good health care during critical periods of growth and development, in order to prevent the occurrence of health problems and improve the health status of pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women (up to six months); infants; and children up to age five years.
